Dallas – Barnes & Thornburg’s Dallas office has added Mark Nelson, a patent litigator with experience handling large, multifaceted infringement cases. Nelson, who was previously with Dentons, joins the firm as partner in the Intellectual Property Department.
“Mark adds a national practice in the semiconductor and telecommunications industries that fits very well with the rest of our firm,” said Mark Bayer, managing partner of Barnes & Thornburg’s Dallas office. “Adding someone with his reputation will help us grow the IP department in Dallas and will attract other practitioners that sync with our core practices, client base and firm culture.”
Nelson has more than 20 years of patent litigation experience, both in federal courts and before the International Trade Commission. He also represents clients in post-grant proceedings. His patent work spans all areas of high-technology, including semiconductors, telecommunications, financial services technology, gaming, internet services, medical devices, biotech, and computer software and hardware, to name a few. Beyond litigation, he counsels clients on IP licensing and due diligence, and has handled copyright, trademark and trade secret matters, as well.
“I was drawn to Barnes & Thornburg because of their deep bench of IP talent combined with its collegial, collaborative working environment across offices,” said Nelson. “The firm places incredible emphasis on putting clients first by providing first-class legal work at a fair and reasonable price. I’m excited to be part of the growth of the Dallas office.”
Nelson received his J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law, with honors, and his B.S. and M.S., both cum laude, from the University of North Dakota.
Nelson is the 19th attorney in the Dallas office and the 14th partner to join Barnes & Thornburg in 2018.
With more than 600 attorneys and other legal professionals, Barnes & Thornburg is one of the largest law firms in the country. The firm serves clients worldwide from 14 offices in Atlanta, California, Chicago, Delaware, Indiana, Michigan, Minneapolis, Ohio, Texas and Washington, D.C.
